As I enter this new chapter with Adlaya’s Art, I thought it would be good to let everyone know why I’ve started offering digital art portraits. Digital art, much like oil paints, coloured pencil, or pastels, is simply another medium artists can use when creating their art. The difference is, digital art is created, well, digitally, either on a computer or tablet.

I will go into what I use to make digital art in another post – for today I want to share what drew me to digital art in the first place. Many of the artists I’ve admired who create fanart do so digitally, and that was what initially drew me in. I played around with different styles and projects for a number of years, learning how to use different brushes and techniques.
But the biggest push to work with a digital medium was my wrist surgery in Fall of 2023. The surgery was on my dominant hand, which meant during my recovery (which was long, and tortuous, but that’s a story for another time!), I could only draw using my left hand.

Learning to write with your non-dominant hand is difficult, but learning to draw with it was even harder. But the thing about digital art is there’s an undo button – it is the most forgiving form of art as you can draw in layers, move things around, and completely erase any mistakes. This was a huge help when drawing with my left hand, as I inevitably made a slew of mistakes.
So there’s a number of reasons why I’ve been interested in digital art for years, but having a creative outlet during my recovery is a big reason why I now do lots of digital art, and will continue to offer digital portraits. And also, they’re a ton of fun!
